Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

"The movie started off with Tom Cruise giving a personal thank you to fans of the series who go to the theater to see them. So, I got that going for me. At this point you know exactly what you’re getting and if you’re like me, you love it. My favorite parts are when they’re pre-gaming the mission and describing how utterly impossible it is and how likely they are to die. Hits every time. Monster Hannah Waddingham cameo. I was kind of under the impression this was the last one. But you couldn’t tell that from the ending. "

"What an incredible film! Satisfying and surprisingly emotional, this beautifully tied all prior films and brought everything together in a neat bow (this is even despite a slightly rough start). Phenomenal editing and directing, along with performances (especially Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Rolf Saxon (reprising his role from the first film), Shea Whigham, and more), sound design, and score. I was surprised at how it even called back to the first film too. If this is the last film in the series, this is one hell of a way to end it. This is a film very highly recommended to be watched in theatres."

"An incredible finale, this movie is epic in scale and has excellent stuntwork. It has a great cast and lots of great callbacks for longtime fans. It does have some pacing issues and Grabriel turns out to be a very hollow character. However, neither problem took away from my enjoyment of the film. The movie was also emotionally impactful and serves as a near perfect cap to one of the most consistently entertaining franchises."

"Mission Impossible is probably one of the most consistent franchises in history! Amazing - unique action, brilliant characters, and a great story with tongue and cheek humor. This one is no exception. It moves quickly and leaves a lot untold, but that is to be expected from a part 1. This one in particular is heavy on the action, which I like - however, it is easy to get lost in all the punches and gun shots. I feel like part two will fill what seemed a little off balance in this one. That being said - it is a must see! Tom Cruise is the man! ENJOY!! I did! "

"Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is one intense ride. I think I was sitting on the edge of my seat the entire run time and holding my breath for somewhere around 50% of it. I don't know which was more exciting/ stressful, the submarine scene or the biplane scene! Also, I was beyond worried for my favorite character of the franchise: Simon Pegg's Benji Dunn. It was a great choice to see this one on the big screen. There were a lot of others seeing the screening I was at - the guy that was sitting beside me had great reactions throughout and it was absolutely priceless to experience it all with him. He was really going through it - all of us were!"

"I enjoyed this film, though it doesn’t reach the heights of the best installments of the series. It’s still doing action/adventure filmmaking on scale that isn’t being attempted anywhere else. 3.75 out of of 5 Stars The Good: There are two fantastic extended action sequences in the film. Tom Cruise is both a) pushing practical action filmmaking to new heights and b) a complete lunatic who, despite being on the cusp of social security, will do any stunt with no regard for his personal safety. The scenes are visceral and captured with a degree of weight and reality that can’t be emulated by CGI. The plane sequence, in particular, is to the Buster Keaton level of “did he really just do that?”. Atwell brought a needed infusion of energy to the team in the last film and there are also a couple of “new” characters who keep the film light and moving here. The OK: I missed the con game and travelogue components that have been prevalent in other installments. (There is a short scene in London but I missed the big action scene that showcases a city.). This film is obsessed with the previous films and Hunt’s past. Some of the call backs are clever and fun but by the 5th time someone gives their version of the “You are the sum total of your choices” speech, you just want the movie to get on with it. The Ugly: “The Entity” is a terrible villain. It’s the worst part of the last two MI movies. It takes a ton of exposition and they more explain it, the more absurd and inconsistent it becomes. The exposition makes the film too long and really slows down the beginning. You can tell they tried to sideline and mitigate The Enitity in this film, as much as possible, but the last movie put them in a place where they couldn’t completely abandon it. "

"A very fitting finale for a fun franchise. This is everything you would want in a Mission Impossible movie: Big Stakes, big action sequences, big stunts, and a whole lot of Tom Cruise running fast. My only problem with this film is that the dialogue was very exposition-heavy. While this film does have a 3-hour runtime, the minutes flew by. The MI franchise will be sorely missed but for now, this entry was one fun last ride. "
