Rosie Danan
“Danan’s one of the best at breaking your heart with a single sentence...Because as romance readers we want to feel just as shattered — and just as redeemed — as the people on the page.”—New York Times Book ReviewThe truth is stranger than fan fiction in the next sexy paranormal rom-com from the beloved author of The Roommate. The only place small-town outcast Alex Lawson fits in is the online fan forum she built for The Arcane Files, a long-running werewolf detective show. Her dedication to archiving fictional supernatural lore made her Internet-famous, even if she harbors a secret disdain for the show’s star, Devin Ashwood. (Never meet your heroes—sometimes they turn out to be The Worst.)Ever since his show went off the air, Devin and his career have spiraled, but waking up naked in the woods outside his LA home with no memory of the night before is a new low. It must have been a coincidence that the once-in-a-century Wolf Blood Moon crested last night. The claws, fangs, and howling are a little more difficult to explain away. Desperate for answers, Devin finds Alex—the closest thing to an expert that exists. If only he could convince her to stop hating his guts long enough to help....Once he makes her an offer she can’t refuse, these reluctant allies lower their guards trying to wrangle his inner beast. Unfortunately, getting up close and personal quickly comes back to bite them.

"Honestly, not good. I had put Rosie Danan on a do not read list because I tried to read Do Your Worst, and she committed the cardinal sin of making not only insufferable characters, but boring characters. Yet, for whatever reason, I decided to not heed my own warning and try again. Mistake! Devin is not only so obtuse that his himbo schtick isn’t charming whatsoever, he consistently insults Alex and tears her down repeatedly. It’s also never touched on outside of his own thoughts. Alex is so one note and uninteresting, I couldn’t find anything to endear myself to her. She’s a total doormat and totally incapable of standing up for herself. Alex and the heroine from Do Your Worst feel like the same brand of human, so, I do think that this is integral to her writing.
We spend far too long on the minutiae of fandom and not enough on actually building a real relationship between Alex and Devin. They have Z E R O chemistry. None! I’m not even convinced they enjoy each other on a friendship basis! I truly foresee a horrific break up for these two. The HEA isn’t even a little bit believable for them.
Also, not to be pedantic, but in what universe would a cash strapped community center teach Krav Maga?? The licensing and the insurance for teaching Krav Maga would be ASTRONOMICAL. If you don’t have the money to keep your doors open, why not teach any other type of self defense course? Krav Maga is also kind of an awful thing to teach at a community center, which is designed to cater to families, children, and elders! It’s a neutralize at all cost fighting style that LAPD, the police force that kills the highest amounts of citizens, learns. That’s an awful choice. If you want to teach people how to get their bodies moving, cost effectively, karate or taekwondo are right there, and probably a lot easier to find an instructor? If self defense is the name of the game, Brazilian jiu jitsu makes way more sense, because when are these people going to be fighting with knives and "
