"I love Ilona Andrews style of #urbanfantasy and that their #romance trend towards #slowburn. I do think the book is best read in the series order."

"3/5 ⭐️ I enjoyed this installment of the series significantly more than the last one. The lead characters have gone through a lot between the two books, and I thought it was a great direction for the characters. I enjoyed the romance significantly more than the last and again love the full cast of characters. However, certain aspects of the plot bothered me. There was again a lot of sense descriptions of magic and background information that you needed to wade through to get to the meat of the story. One other thing that I’ve noticed in these books is that it feels like the story is building to a final confrontation throughout but then when that finally happens it is often finished pretty quickly. Overall though, I did like this one.

Update: 3.5/5 ⭐️ I do think the romance is a lot stronger in this book (maybe my favorite romance of any of the books) which makes up for the fact that the plot of this story is not my favorite of the series (even if it is still compelling). I think the plot in these books move in such clever, creative ways that don’t always have large scale conclusions as I may sometimes hope (since the slow development is so great) but are always a great combination of unexpected but logical."
