"This is a terrific read. With this book, #andy_weir, author of #the_martian has clearly established himself as one of the best #hard_science_fiction authors out there. If you like the genre, stop what you are doing and read this book. And if you like audio books, this is one to listen to. The narrator is great and really helps immerse you in the protagonist. One way or the other, this is a #must_read for anyone who enjoys science fiction, or just science in general"
"I listened to this audiobook because I heard it is amazing and it certainly was! I am not usually a science fiction reader and have a hard time understanding things, especially space but this was written so well, and in a way I could follow and understand. I felt along with the main character, and loved the side character as well! Highly recommend!!"
"Very similar writing and style to The Martian but a much different story. Earth is in grave danger and we have a science teacher left to save it! Awesome story but does get heavy into science/physics for long stretches. I also wanted a different ending…don’t want to spoil, but I’m a sucker for everything always working out in a story."
"I don’t find myself in the science fiction section of the library often and when I saw how thick this book was, I got nervous. My nervousness quickly turned into eagerness and anticipation, as I got further and further into it. Overall, the book tells a good and very unique story. The plot is captivating and I truly wanted to know what would happen next.
The blend of science in math with storytelling is truly remarkable. Most of the math was over my head and yet still understood what was going on without feeling like the main character, Dr. Grace, was being condescending. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the solutions he came up with and the realness of it.
I think I’m really going to take away from this book the vastness of space. Weir does such a great job of having the reader visualize what it would be like a board the “Hail Mary”. I’ve never given it much thought, but choosing space as a setting would be incredibly tough to write.
I love the beginning, middle and end of the book. I thought the use of flashbacks was well done and turned out well. The plot kept moving along with some unexpected twists (TWO to be exact). As for the ending? Chef’s kiss. I am both satisfied and unsatisfied the way and ending should leave me.
If you like Doctor Who, space travel, or really any science fiction read this book.
5/5 stars"
"THIS WAS AMAZING!! My heart… The last time I was this moved by science fiction, was Seveneves. Much like that book, here we meet man at the end of humanity as we know it. With little time and all of the stakes to try to save earth and our species. Dr. Grace remembers nothing, and has to work his way back to his memory, and back to an Earth that may be a lifetime different than what he left it as. There’s a component of found family here I didn’t expect to find and man am I cherishing, and though science heavy, everything is explained in laymen’s terms that made sense. It didn’t feel like I was reading a thesis in quantum physics, now I understand the mesh on your microwave door keeps the waves from nuking your face. I enjoyed all those tidbits facts of science.
The banter in this book between the main characters is TOP NOTCH! So many LOL moments, go in blind. Trust me it’s worth it.
The end felt, heavy on the HEA but, I won’t complain because the alternative would have shattered me. LOVED THIS! Happy reading! "
"I loved this book! I haven't been able to finish a book lately, so I decided to pick something outside of what I usually read. I didn't even read the summary, I chose the book purely from judging its cover. It was a pretty quick read for me and I would recommend reading this book endlessly. It's pretty comedic and a bit cringey but I think that made me love it more. It also helps that the protagonist is definitely one of the best you could come across, not overly annoying. Makes me wish I knew more science though. Still a great book 👍🏿!!!
**POTENTIAL SPOILER AHEAD**
I wish we got to know what happened to Earth at the end, but we can't have everything 😭"
