"I just loved this series and this last book was no exception. I laughed. I cried. I rooted for badass women and found a special place in my heart for loyal companions. I was thrilled when characters from Slaying the Shadow Prince made a more prominent appearance. There were gripping battles and twists that jerked tears from my eyes. There was plenty of spice. This series is going into my favorites. I can’t wait to read Iron & Embers (which comes out this month) because it’s related to the Thezmarr world and I’ll take any further connection to these characters I can get. "

This series was the biggest disappointment that I’ve ever had the misfortune of entering my life. Blood & Steel started out SO promising, only to end in this complete crap. I could write a book on why S&S sucks so hard, and it’d be better than the actual book.
For starters: Wilder was imprisoned in the worst place known to man where horrors unfold worse than death… for 40 pages. He henceforth had about 2 chapters of trauma before sex with Thea magically cured him (I’m shocked).
Queen Reyna needed about 1 chapter to convince her to join the war, & not only that, join the side that she fully believed killed her husband.
The big battle with Artos/Thezmarr was more than underwhelming - hell, more page time was spent PLANNING for the war than the actual battles. And it was never explained fully HOW Artos used his empath magic to cause discord? He’d have to be at the other kingdoms 24/7? So stupid.
Wilder & Thea have so much “grr” energy that was fricken cringe. Everyone in this book was cringe actually. Everyone.
Seb stuck around only to be written as a rapist & THEN killed in the most edgelord way. What a joke. He could have been such a better planned out adversary.
Jasira was the most predictable mustache twirling villain that divulged her evil plan before dying to a burst of heroism from Thea. The whole thing was so anticlimactic & forced.
Ooooh, it’s Anya’s fate stone, wow. What a well thought out twist that has no plot holes. What a well thought out book with no plot holes (/s). Insert rude gesture.
90% of this book is forced garbage without any backstory/thought put into the characters & their actions. This last book was overly rushed because Scheureuereueuer decided to fill up the previous books with sex and immature nonsense. It could have been soooooo much better. So much better. I started skimming at the 50% mark - I would have LOVED to DNF this book, but that’s not the reader I am. What a supreme waste.
