A woman must learn to take life by the throat after a night out leads to irrevocable changes in this juicy, thrilling novel from the USA Today bestselling author of Such Sharp Teeth and Black Sheep.Sloane Parker is dreading her birthday. She doesn’t need a reminder she’s getting older, or that she’s feeling indifferent about her own life. Her husband surprises her with a birthday-weekend getaway—not with him, but with Sloane’s longtime best friend, troublemaker extraordinaire Naomi. Sloane anticipates a weekend of wine tastings and cozy robes and strategic avoidance of issues she’d rather not confront, like her husband’s repeated infidelity. But when they arrive at their rental cottage, it becomes clear Naomi has something else in mind. She wants Sloane to stop letting things happen to her, for Sloane to really live. So Naomi orchestrates a wild night out with a group of mysterious strangers, only for it to take a horrifying turn that changes Sloane’s and Naomi’s lives literally forever. The friends are forced to come to terms with some pretty eternal consequences in this bloody, seductive novel about how it’s never too late to find satisfaction, even though it might taste different than expected.

"The book was well written however, I felt that the book relational dynamics were extremely unhealthy. The main character needed some major personal psychological growth work. I felt that the main character’s relationship with the best friend, one of the central relationship arches in the book, was dysfunctional AF, toxic, and simultaneously pathologically romanticized. "
"I loved this book, but I admit I likely overlooked any faults because it gave me so much nostalgia to be reading a vampire novel again. I was completely obsessed with vampire novels as a teen and this just brought me right back and reminded me of how much I loved series like Twilight or Marked. "
"i'm honestly so confused at what i just read lol the book was tolerable, but the main 2 characters started to annoy me (after being turned) always bickering & going back & forth blaming each other (which i understand because they could've avoided all of this) like PLEASE you're literally a vampire with no knowledge on how to control yourself why wouldn't you stick with the people that know what they're doing??? EVERY single thing she accused the others of doing (being monsters aka murderers) is what she did by BLINDLY trusting the same friend that put her in this position by assuming her friend would be able to control her thirst like her (even though she couldn't control it either just had more self control) KNOWING she didn't understand how being a vamp worked but she's supposed to be a realist??? she needed a reality check lol"
"I'm actually annoyed by the amount of good reviews this has because this a fraud of a feminist vampire story. Boring as all get out and the most annoying characters known to man. The best thing about it was that it was short and I didn't have to continue my suffering across several more hours."
"This book felt like one of those great 80’s movies even though it’s not a movie, nor is it set in the 80’s. It manages to capture the friendship, horror and humor of the 80’s scary movie in a way that makes you fall absolutely in love, even if the main character grates on your nerves. Sloane’s birthday is approaching, and her husband has surprised her with a weekend trip to a luxury spa. Only, he isn’t planning on going, her wild child long time best friend Naomi is. Naomi and Sloane have been there for each other, but in the last year Naomi has been away travelling Europe with her boyfriend’s band and their relationship has become more superficial. Sloane hopes this will be the chance for the two of them to hang out, sip wine and reconnect without having to get too personal. Naomi hopes this will be a chance for her to wake up her friend into really living her life and not just drifting along. When Naomi’s plan for a wild night out takes a turn for the worse Sloane is forced to make the toughest decision she has ever had to make, and one with dire consequences. This is a great story about the complexities of female friendship. How having the best intentions for someone can go wrong, and how sometimes it’s hard to let go of hidden resentments and past trauma to fully live your life. It was a violent and bloody journey to fall in love with each of the characters and the hidden dark world that Harrison created. I was captivated by the story being told, but I absolutely loved the ending. If you are looking for a dark book that still manages to warm your heart, then definitely pick up a copy of this book.

Thanks to Shelf Awareness for picking me as the winner of the horror book ARC giveaway."
"Rachel Harrison has done it again with another story about friendship. Oh, and all the creepy vibes.

Sloane and Naomi have been best friends for years and can't be more opposite. Sloane is cautious and fine with the status quo. Naomi is wild and free and is always looking for fun. When Sloane's husband surprises her with a weekend getaway for her and Naomi she's prepared to get out of the monotone of everyday life, though, she finds it perfectly acceptable. On this trip Naomi is determined to get Sloane to starting living more so she sets up a night with a group of mysterious strangers. And this night changes them both forever.

This book really explores the ebbs and flows of a long friendship. How a strong bond can get you through so much. Even becoming undead. Harrisons girl relationships in her books are always my favorite part but this one I think I enjoyed Sloane's relationship with herself the most. Really getting to delve into her past, her present, and ultimately her future shows the many facets that women have and how all of us as people are products of our environment on some level. But we're always changing and evolving and your relationship with yourself is most important.

As always the vibes are there - lots of blood in this vampire book. I loved the take on vampires and how the girls deals with it. Though I was yelling at them at times I can't say I'd act any differently in their position. I also loved some scenes (that I won't spoil) because they reminded me of The Return which is the first book I read from Rachel Harrison and when I became a fan. However, out of all of her books I think this is my least favorite only because I felt like there was so much more that could have been explored. I felt it ended too suddenly - I wanted to know so much more. It could just me being greedy but I think this book would be a good series."
