"What a powerful film! I always hesitate to talk about how mental illness is portrayed on screen, so I will just review the characters. Bette Davis and Joan Crawford play Baby Jane and Blanche, the Hudson sisters, who were famous actresses or singers in their earlier years. Now...they are both decaying mentally, physically, and emotionally in the family home inherited one of the sisters. We see the toxic relationship between the two come to a boil on the last act. There is truly nothing to prepare the viewer for the psychoses that exist and that plays out daily. Stage and screen actress Maisie Norman gives a strong performance as Elvira, the Hudson's maid, and Blanche's friend. "
"🌟 🎞️ This is more of a gothic & grotesque dark, campy comedy that ultimately turns into a “psychological horror story” than it is a virtual “horror” flick — I suggest watching this in tandem with FEUD, the anthology series on HULU starring Susan Sarandon & Jessica Lange [with Alfred Molina] for an in-depth peek at these two “Old Hollywood” legends & screen “divas” who were also real-life rivals or “frienemies” — and for more campy fun, watch MOMMIE DEAREST, the outrageous & controversial biopic of Joan Crawford. 🎞️ ⭐️ "
