The narrative unfolds in the 14th Century, when the European nations vie for supremacy within the Holy Roman Empire. The ambitious Austrian Empire, desiring more land, invades neighbouring Switzerland, a serene and pastoral nation. Protagonist William Tell, a formerly peaceful hunter, finds himself forced to take action as his family and homeland come under threat from the oppressive Austrian King and his ruthless warlords.

"I was unaware of anything about the legend of William Tell, beyond that he shot an apple off his son's head with a crossbow, so this was a somewhat interesting watch for me. I'm not sure how historically accurate any of it is, but the manner of speech that is used in this film seemed to be a mixture of Old English, Shakespearean, and mumbling, and seemed odd. There are some good action scenes and at times, can be a bit brutal. The cinematography is quite dynamic and makes me want to visit Switzerland. A couple of the villains played it over the top, which kept things interesting. It has a longer runtime than needed, I guess they were trying to make it a big, epic movie, like Braveheart, but it falls a little short. If you like historical action dramas, it could be worth checking out. 6.5/10"
