"This fantastic film is so poetic and the fight scenes are incredibly acrobatic. Even though it has been years since I first viewed it, nothing compares to what Ang Lee directed, unless it is another one of his films! 😂 I love that Wikipedia describes this film as "a 2000 epic romantic drama wuxia martial arts film." I had already been a great fan of Michelle Yeoh even before this film, but this role absolutely cemented her incredible acting and martial arts status to an even larger audience. Yeoh plays the role of Yu Shu Lien. Zhang Ziyi plays Jen Yu, and has such a strong screen presence in whatever role she plays. Chow Yun-fat played the role of Li Mu Bai, and he, of course, was a huge star in Asia in the 1990's, and this also saw his talents reach a much wider audience. The plot is about Shu Lien and Mu Bai having unrequited feelings for one another, that each doesn't want to act on, out of a sense of honor. Mu Bai wants to bequeath his Green Destiny sword, and finds betrayal, political collusion, and physical blocks along the way. The fight choreography is absolutely incredible. Mandarin audio."
"Not really my cup of tea and I didn’t understand why the nobleman’s daughter took the sword and what she thought she would accomplish with it being in her hands. There was also a part I didn’t realize was supposed to be a flashback scene until after so I was confused on how the teen met her lover until the end. So with that I felt the story needed to be clearer. I do love Michelle Yeoh though."
