"I neither liked nor disliked it — I appreciate what they were going for & all the acting was great 👍🏾 I just know some people who’ll see this or who’ll get “dragged in” by a friend or family member to see it, might be hugely disappointed UNLESS they can appreciate #satire & #darkhumor "
"I went into this movie thinking that it was somehow going to be about cannibalism. Boy was I wrong. This movie has a ridiculously preposterous premise for a dark comedy. Most of the reactions of the characters weren't believable or genuine. That being said, I was thoroughly entertained. As the movie progressed, I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Silly, and far fetched but really captivating. I'm glad I went into it somewhat blind. A solid 8.5/10"
"Well, it’s original, I’ll give it that. It’s well made, has really good performances, especially Anya Taylor-Joy, and I even understand the statement it wants to make. I hate to drag fresh and unique movies, but it never hooked me, it’s not fun and the ending didn’t help. I’m sure it’ll get nominated for best picture, but I usually end up disliking most of those movies too. "
"This film is brilliant. It’s so suspenseful and the way the story unfolds is masterful. The editing choices were a nice touch, showing off the menu items like on the Food Network. Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes are the clear stand outs, with performances that had me holding my breath. Nicholas Hoult was also great, though I wanted to kill his character, Tyler, after the plot twist (IYKYK). Truly one of the best movies of the year."
"“You’ll eat less than you desire and more than you deserve”.
Literally the best line in this entire film. The way I laughed when Elsa said that lol. This movie felt like it was literally crafted for me personally. I’m a foodie nothing like Tyler dude was a intolerable extreme foodie and a big loser. Watching him try to pan sear those lamb chops in the cast iron (something I expertly cooked for dinner last night) was pure comedy. I love watching chef and cooking shows. Something I’ve been watching since a child. The first chef I use to watch faithfully was Emeril Live. That was long before Hell’s Kitchen and Iron Chef. To this day I still enjoy some cooking content here and there. Now enough of me and on to The Menu(did you like what I just did there? Lol) This is a dark comedy thriller satire on a hyper exclusive restaurant from director Mark Mylod well known for HBO’s Succession. It’s sorta part of that “eat the rich” sub-genre which has been a little more seen in recent film and shows. A genre I actually enjoy watching. Mostly every actor in this film has great performances. Master Chef Julian Slowik (Ralp Fiennes) reminded me of a tortured Gordon Ramsey. His portrayal of a high end chef who’s just lost all his passion was spot on. As much as I loved Ana Taylor Joy canny performance and her just being aesthetically pleasing on my eyes. Hong Chau who played Elsa was the real mvp of this film. She stole every scene she was in with a serious but still very effective comedic prowess. If I’m being honest all these actors together in one room was just a masterclass. They played these roles just believable enough not to make it camp. The fact this is a satire on Food Culture I can see how it might not resonate with some but it should with most. It’s surely one of the best films of last year so if you haven’t watched it yet I recommend giving it a try. #hbomax #foodie #darkcomedy #thriller "
