"Surprisingly a first watch. Was wary of the white savior trope but I think this really held up and was more of a homage. End of the 19th century, Japan’s young emperor allowed western culture and trade and with that, the evil that is guns. The old guard, including the samurai, contest these changes and civil war ensues. Great action scenes and an epic final battle. Edward Zwick, who also directed one of my all time faves in Glory, in perhaps his last really good movie. "
