"Read the 1975 book some years ago and this adaptation w Black teenagers from different parts of California reuniting in high school after losing touch following elementary was so original, relevant, heartwarming and real. Lovedddd it and definitely think while inspired by the book, the cultural accuracy, soundtrack choices and subject matter made it clear that Mara Brock Akil and her team went into the project with the goal of making something true to Black teen love in the 21st century!"
