Emily Henry
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ∙ A shimmering, joyful novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK OF 2024Named a Must-Read Book of 2024 by TIME ∙ NPR ∙ ELLE ∙ Parade ∙ Woman’s World and more! Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads—Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them? But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex . . . right?

"I am not generally a fan of romance but I do enjoy Emily Henry. Here a woman who has been jilted moves in with her ex’s ex and the two jilted lovers play at being in live themselves. It is complicated but makes for a fun and funny story."

"When your ex’s dump you for each other and you move in as a last resort. This is sweet with little spice friends to lovers and roommates romance. I love the quick wit and the honest way they brought their lives together. There are some big family emotions in there too. "

"Emily Henry's books can be hit or miss for me…I either love them or I can't finish them. While this one isn’t my favorite of hers, it is one of her better ones. I wanted a little more character development outside of their family issues and emotional baggage. I would get annoyed with miscommunication or lack of communication at times and thought it could use a little more humor. It was, however, a very easy and overall enjoyable read. "

"The themes and messages within this book are very heart-warming and precious. Although, I did wished the pacing was a little faster. Rom-com it-book :)"

"Emily Henry just doesn’t miss and I feel like she keeps getting better and better. For instance, the banter! Amazingly hilarious and kind of unparalleled, honestly. I love Daphne and Miles so much as well as all the other characters as well as Waning Bay. Also, the way that the epilogue allows the story to come full circle is one of the best things ever. I would recommend not only this book but also Emily Henry to just about anyone."

"This was a cute romcom that had enough 🌶️ and enough going on in the plot to keep things interesting. Nothing too deep, but a fun read. "

"Was one of the best books I’ve read published this year. And yes it was unironically funny. It had some lifelike topics without taking itself to seriously and it knew at the end of the day it was a feel good story "

"I rated Funny Story by Emily Henry 4 stars. The story is engaging, funny, and filled with relatable characters. Daphne, the main character, is incredibly relatable as she navigates the fallout from her broken engagement and tries to heal while supporting those around her. The dynamic between Daphne and Miles is hilarious and charming, and their relationship evolves in a very organic way. I really enjoyed how Daphne balanced her personal struggles with being a good friend and trying to maintain her own sense of identity after everything falls apart.
The humor in the book is spot-on, and while there are plenty of light moments, the deeper themes of trust and personal growth really resonated with me. Watching Daphne try to repair the fractures in her life, including her friendship with Petra and her relationship with her estranged father, made for a very satisfying journey. The chemistry between Daphne and Miles was real and heartfelt, and their interactions were so natural, making this an enjoyable read from start to finish. Overall, it’s a wonderful story of friendship, healing, and figuring out what you truly want in life. I highly recommend it!"
