"i adorned my detroiters shirt to see this in theaters. it stayed true to the wacky humor of tim robinson, while staying grounded and odd and quaint and uncomfy. i love a study on the weirdness of friendship power dynamics. it gets darker than you’d expect but never strays too far from being consistently funny. the laughter of the fellow tim robinson fans behind me definitely enhanced the experience. i hope this secures his future in more big time projects like this. he can go sketch mode one second and then human mode the next. additional oscar winning performance from that toad."
"This movie deals with male bonding and loneliness in a very real way. Rudd's character is charismatic, friendly and funny with a great job. While Tim is the complete opposite; socially awkward, strange sense of humor with a boring corporate job. They don't seem like they would be friends but when he is brought into his circle, he feels that warmth of friendship and belonging. After he inevitably makes things awkward, he gets cast aside. It really hit him hard, and he doesn't have the social skills to deal with it. So that whole set up and what happened after felt pretty real. The flaw here is that it doesn't explore much outside of the setup and it's listed as a comedy but half of this really felt like a drama. Tim brings his unique brand of comedy to the role and has great chemistry and timing with Rudd. I expected more laughs but I still think it's worth a watch. "This movie is genuinely so good I feel a bit broken after watching it. When I first heard of this movie I wasn’t that interest mainly because the clips I would randomly see seemed kinda meh to me, but man was I wrong. It’s pretty funny with its random, awkward yet a bit cringy comedy with its over the top chaos.
Another reason why I enjoyed it so much is I resonated with Tim Robinson’s character. The awkward, lonely character who makes a friend and gets overly excited to have another bro and then later on things takes a turn for the worse. Definitely felt that in my soul but of course this being a movie things get pretty crazy and exaggerated.
My biggest issue though and I feel like I’ve been seeing this more and more with modern movies is the way it ends. Ending has a pretty crazy yet hilarious scene that I feel didn’t complete the story. It’s one of those cliffhanger scenes that once the movie ends shows the name of the movie, been getting really annoyed of seeing that.
Overall, the movie is hilarious with a subtle dark undertone that I found entertaining.
Also, that toad scene was one of the funniest thing I’ve ever seen."
