"Not much to this; a quick background review on Queen Coriane (Cal's mother) and Farley. Jarring that the 1st half is written third person, (yet sort of feels 1st person). Lots of stylistic filler; dont get the feeling she spent much time on this. Enjoyed the second part which introduces Farley, Tristan and Shade far more."
"To be veeeeery honest, I’m not suprised the rating for this book are 2-4 star ratings, even 3 and 4 stars is high.

Starting with Queen Song, I never understood this novella and it did NOT stand out whatsoever! I had no interest in reading it and was not excited to pick it up. I’m very thankful that it was only 54 pages so I didn’t DNF it.

Onto Steel Scar, this rating was slightly better, but not enough. I had no interest and it was just plain boring. It was until pages 130-ish to 137 I ACTUALLY starting “reading” it and didn’t just zone out. But then it went back to be boring.
I almost DNF-ed this.

So to sum this up, please don’t read this book, or ANY of the novellas. Read them if you want but they are just really boring and “unnecessary”. I’ve been wanting to read the Red Queen series for about a month but after reading these novellas, I’m starting to reconsider. It’s like Victoria just slapped a couple words into the page and called it a day.

There’s most of my opinion of this book.

1.5 stars"

"Queen song-⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Steel Scars-⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed both of the short stories(?) in this novella. I’ve put off reading it for a good long wild for reasons that are unknown to even me, but I finally caved when I had a B&N gift card and was already getting King’s Cage to replace my missing copy and had enough to get this book. I wish there would have been more world building, especially in Steel Scars. I would have liked to see more of the Lakelands. In Queen Song, I felt for Corriane in the end but it took me a while to build sympathy to her because, after all, she is still a privileged person in this oppressive society. It wasn’t a particularly profound novella, but it was fun."
