"Trigger warning: rape.

This book was very entertaining at the beginning. I was rooting for the heroine to get her revenge...

But then she did the unthinkable:

Gave up on her ploy because of "love."

Ugh!!

Love should have empowered her more, or at least after the H kicked her out of the house, she should NOT have gone back to him. But I started the sequel, and she did, she went back to the H after he humiliated her and kicked her out."
"This book is an emotional roller-coaster.

It starts out unlike any other contemporary romance I've read before: A girl, living in a trailer park with her mother and her mother's deadbeat boyfriend, meets a boy and has that teenage "head-over-heels in love" moment. I keep thinking that's going to be how the book goes. Boy, was I ever wrong.

It's just twist after twist after twist. Then, Churchill comes along. I think, "Oh, this is her sugar daddy (hence the title of the book)." NOPE. Again, we go down twists and turns and we meet Gage. Oh, and then Hardy shows back up. And now, it's a love triangle. OH! Twist again. And again. This book felt like being in a fun-house. The other Kleypas book that I think compares to this is "Someone to Watch Over Me." I DO enjoy the Kleypas Fun House books :)

Definitely fell for Gage. Thought it would be "enemies to lovers" starting out with he and Liberty but he grows on you and grows FAST. Hardy is hot, adorbs and definitely does a lot for Liberty but, I gotta be honest: He didn't sell me in either iteration of his life (pre-money vs. post-money). Pre-money, he's all, "I don't deserve you" and post-money, he's all "I want you now and I don't care where you're at in your life. We have a history." Gage is the better man in letting Liberty figure that out for herself, although the private eye thing was kind of a dick move on his part.

Considering this is my first CR with Kleypas, I liked it! Nothing was really predictable, which was good. Looking forward to the next book..."
"I could not put this book down! I literally read it in about 24 hours, and at more than 400 pages, that's saying something. The book goes far beyond what was on the back cover. I have never read a Lisa Kleypas book, but now I HAVE to read more. I can't wait to read Hardy's story. I loved him and up until the end was hoping, HOPING he and Liberty would get together. But Kleypas made me believe that Gage was the right man for Liberty, even though I was still sad it didn't work out! Oh, the dilemmas!

A few things that kept this from being a five star: I felt the end was a little rushed. I would have liked a little slower pacing of the resolution. I would have also liked a little more focus on Liberty and Gage's relationship. Kleypas sets you up through the first two thirds of the book for a Liberty-Hardy happy ending, and I would have liked a little more set up for the real happy-ending.

And one nit-pick. At one point, Kleypas says Miss Marva has no children, and at another point, she says she has a daughter. I always pick up on stuff like that...no biggie, but just noticed it and it bugged me."

"This was more like a 1 1/2 stars for me. The writing was frustrating at times and the characters were flat. I couldn't find much in the way of romance with the couple... A lot of the romance happens off scene which made it hard to connect with their relationship. I was moderately annoyed that the conflicting behavior of Daniel and felt frustrated that it just resolved without any issue. I was ready for a really taboo sexy story but in the grand scheme, it didn't feel all that special. Overall I think there are other eroticas with better characters if that's what your looking for.

Upside, great representation that did make me smile."
"This book was totally unexpected. The first half of the book is dedicated to telling Liberty's history of growing up. Normally, the author gets straight to the (eventually romantic) relationship. At first, I didn't like it - I didn't understand the set-up. Still, I stuck with it. As far as that part of the story goes, unrelated to the genre, I enjoyed the writing and the story. I was unprepared for how invested I ended up being in the characters and their growth. There's so much angst, but even as crazy as it gets, it still comes across realistic. I was very pleasantly surprised as to how much I ended up enjoying the book. Thank you, Lisa Kleypas, for doing something totally different."
