"3. 75⭐️ Ughh ..this doc got me riled! Back in 2023, just like everyone, this story consumed me as it held all media and the entire world on anxious tenterhooks for four solid days in June..to its inevitable tragic end. We didn’t get the full story then but boy will you here. And it will make your blood boil. Another tale as old as time but uniquely our time. Narcissist bordering on psychopathic rich dude convinces others he’s a genius even though barely skating through an engineering degree at PRINCETON (ugh) because, you know..privilege. Comes up with cockamamie idea and basically creates a cult-like culture around it even though he’s clearly a moron who loves to hear himself talk. Someone please tell these billionaires, and EVERYONE who follows them, that money, power and the ability to sound like you know what you’re talking about do not a genius make. When they start to believe their own BS, becoming bound and determined to bring everyone around them down (literally) along with them, then it’s not just stupid but incredibly dangerous.
This doc meticulously toils through the technical aspects of what went wrong that terrible day and long before. The blood boiling part comes in while it uncovers toxic workplace politics, ignored and vilified whistleblowers (or conversely, willfull blind trust), and the fully delusional hubris that drove it there, along with the investigative aftermath.
In addition to this Netflix doc I also watched HBO’s version — IMPLOSION: The Titanic Sub Disaster. The former taking forever to finish as it was slow in getting to the real story. Plus it doesn’t spend much time on the passengers who lost their lives. The Max doc is a bit shorter, moving at a brisker pace and holding my attention from the start, though not nearly as detailed or methodical which I ended up appreciating about the Netflix one. Each brings a little something different to the table so watch both or whichever suits your style. But either way prepare to get heated. "

"I was a little disappointed in this documentary. I thought they would talk more about the ocean gate sub and other subs like the one James Cameron has. And the beginning tease a cracking sound…I thought I would see more of that too. Talking to the creator of the Simpsons who had a successful mission. Instead this was just info I already knew about. I even fell asleep at one point. That’s how not interesting it was"
